You'll just need to keep calling. Places only carry treated 4x4s because the most common use of them is to make deck posts. If you manage to find them untreated, they're probably Douglas Fir, and from experience these are great. Might be worth calling and asking specifically for Douglas Fir.

I found it pretty consistently at Menards, and my local Lowes carries it as well.

I know that many have posted that they "just went to their local home store and picked some up." I wish I lived there, because that little feature is not available anywhere near here. HD and Lowes said they would special order them, but I wasn't about to spend $85 on two untreated pieces of pine. I did wind up going back to my local lumber yard and I picked up 10' x 10" x 6" piece of poplar. I had to mill it all down to what I wanted and it took a little while, but I was more pleased with this than the pine.

I have the same issue. currently drive 2 1/2 hours to get them. Home Depot in the next state has them. My home depot said they could transfer them for me but even when I go to Louisiana I have to sort through half the stack and don't want to risk them sending me crap lumber. We need these on a regular basis and it is becoming a real pain!

If you have a Lowes or HD in your area they carry the untreated variety. They are typically fir and are really nice. Unfortunately my blue and orange only carry the 8 foot variety. The other option is once in a while visit your local Habitat for Humanity ReStore and see what they might have.
