I'm happy to share with everyone my IKEA hack 6" tray cabinet.
I found a 24" cabinet box in IKEA's As-Is section and took it home for half price ($23)! I would have preferred plywood, but my table saw is a little small and cutting large sheets of plywood is a little scary. When I deconstructed the cabinet, it sustained some damage (as its particleboard), so if you try this at home, be careful! I ended up changing the depth to 22" in order to cut off the damaged piece, but that shouldnt be noticeable with average trays and cutting boards.
I used Ana's 6" tray cabinet plan and modified the dimensions a little for my planned space. It still needs the back, face frame and door (which will be a replacement drawer front from the cabinet manufacturer). I plan on building the face frame at the time the cabinets are installed, since this will go in between the 36" corner easy-reach and the 36" sink base. Once its done, I'll post updated pics!
Added some extra trim pieces to finish it out. turned out really nice!!

These look great! Did you use the cedar tone water proofing?
Ana, thanks for these plans! They inspired me to make my first bed build. I also want to thank all of you that added brag posts! They gave me ideas for some of the modifications that I made. I did this build by mixing your Queen Farmhouse and Queen Farmhouse Storage bed plans. I also added a number of modifications to suit my own preferences. The drawer boxes I changed by building a faceplate (I didn't want the plywood ends exposed), and by increasing in depth to maximize some additional storage. Since I increased the drawer sizes, I went with the euro roller bearing slides. I increased the foot-board height to be slightly higher than the mattress. I also designed the footboard to have a removable inner section with hidden latches on the inside. I did this because I wanted to make use of the "dead space" between the drawer boxes. I then used this space to house a hidden drawer, that is approx six feet deep (I couldn't help myself-I love hidden drawers ). Because I added the hidden drawer, I changed the opptional center support to 4X4 blockes that were pocket screwed under the center of the boxes. I ended up using birch plywood and fir for this build. For my first bed build I'm fairly happy with how it came out. Thanks again!

Thanks for the compliments! It was a fun learning experience. Making all the modifications definitely slowed down the build, but also made it more rewarding!

I just started my bed (mostly out of Baltic Birch) and am wondering where you were able to find such nice 4x4s. Your bed is gorgeous! No luck here. I bought redwood, but really wanted fir for the sharper edges. It's my first project, too. I also bought same drawer slides, but the soft close. Didn't want the slam. I figure building it will be the easy part compared to procuring nice 4x4s! Hope you can help!

Thanks! The 4x4s I found at a place called Better Living Building Supply. They had a pretty nice assortment of fir, including the 4x4s, so that is why I chose it for the build. Finding the 4x4s slowed down my start on the build. Our local Lowes only had them in treated pine.

Thank you for the pictures, the bed turned out Awesome. I was wondering about the latching system for the foot of the bed. Do you think a piano hinge on the lower would work too? Also on the center drawer did you use rollers or is it just friction? Can't wait to start the build.
Thanks

This is excellent!!! I really like this, so much in fact that the wife is going to have to get used to it too. lol But really, GREAT work! Any chance you could post a pic and or comment about how you attached that removeable end? i think this is the best part! Cheers!

How can I get / purchase the plans for the construction of the bed ?

Beekeeper, Awesome build!!! Have you posted your altered plans anywhere? I'm very interested in your build, I was wondering about some aspects of it and how you approached it. Plans would clear it up instead of bothering you with all my questions.

Bed turned out awesome. I was wondering if you have the plans for the bed with a list of supplies it took to make this bed. I so want this bed it's just what we are needing
Great job
Ok, so I built this table for my Brother. He just purchased a new BBQ and I noticed he didn't have anywhere for staging his food. I was going to just build a table, but then I saw this rolling cart w/ removable tray. I thought it was a great idea. He can bring the tray inside, load it up with food and supplies, bring it to the grill, and then bring it to the table if he so desires. I made a few changes from the original . The biggest changes were that I did not put handles on it nor did I make it a rolling cart. The main reason was.....well....i just didn't feel like it. HaHa
If he decides he wants it to roll, it's a pretty easy fix to take care of that for him. Me personally, I just liked it as a stationary table. And since I built it, I can pretty much do what I want. (insert laugh) I also added an extra handle to one side of the cart. It can be used for a towel, BBQ tools, etc.
I did add extra side supports and added some additional trim to the side to take up some gaps. This aided in added strength and prevented the top tray from falling through the top. I noticed with the original plan that the tray only sat on the end pieces and there was nothing preventing it from falling right on through. Either that or I built it wrong. Either way it was an easy fix and I like the way it looks afterwards too.
Overall I am happy with the build portion of it, but extremely bummed with the finish. I tried my hand at painting it with outdoor paint and a clear outdoor top coat. For some reason I could just not get it smooth. Oh well, we live and learn. No more painting for me, I will stick to staining from now on.
I hope you all enjoy and maybe my Brother will invite you over for a BBQ. He at least better invite me over!!
Thanks Ana for another brilliant plan. Couldn't do it it without you! (or coffee)

Stop being so hard on yourself. I think it came out awesome. Now go start building my lounge chair so I can lay out in the sun and get a tan!!!! Love, Your Wife :)
If you are wondering if you can do this, I just learned to use a saw a week ago! So... YES, you can! =)
Took me all weekend to do the cutting and building. Was able to do everything alone except final assembly. I just didn't have enough hands.
Feel free to ask any questions. Also, take a look at my site for custom signs!! =)

This looks great!! I want to build this bed for my little guy but I am worried my ceiling may be too short for it
A friend needed a raised garden bed for her husband who is in a wheel chair. I searched and found the VegTrug's. It took a lot of trial and error. I based it off Williams Sonoma's pictures. I wouldn't of attempted this with out a plan if it weren't for Ana's website.

Dear CaronGirls, Are plans available for this?

Not sure what the story is here, Maybe she got in trouble for saying Vegtrug? I would like plans for a DIY Raised planter bed like the above.
DIY Ladder Shelf to use as a plant stand on our courtyard deck.
We are in desperate need of toy storage in our playroom. We are planning to build several more of these bulk bins.

It was just standard pine. We painted afterwards with grey paint leftover from a kitchen project.
I got tired of sleeping on the floor like college kids, but I didn’t want to buy a junky particle board bedframe. My husband and I are novice woodworkers. Even still, we bought the lumber around noon and managed to finish the whole project in about 5-6 hours! We used a Kreg jig for the first time and it was pretty simple. I am really pleased with how this turned out, and I can’t wait to try more of Ana’s plans in the future.
Built in 5ft x 5ft pantry using pine panels as they were available in the widths we needed. Inspired by your pantry build video, thank you.

I constructed this desk all from birch plywood. It features a pull out keyboard tray, modern drawer finger pulls, and full extension drawer slides. The plywood was finished with a hand-rubbed danish oil for a natural wood appearance.
This is a very custom fireplace that I built for my wife as a 40th wedding anniversary gift. It is built around a Samsung 55” Frame TV and a Vivo motorized mount. The motorized mount allows the TV to be lowered to a better viewing height than the standard above mantle position which is usually too high for comfortable viewing.
In order to maintain the flush mount effect with the TV in art mode, I recessed the mount into the fireplace. That required building a “back” frame for the TV mount then the outer frame for the surround. I covered the outer frame with ½” OSB then ship lap. The mantle and hearth is made from Poplar with walnut stain and Polyurethane satin top coat. The hearth opens for storage.
This was sourced from several different plan sets with a lot of customization and input from the Technical Support Staff at Vizo-US.

Happy Anniversary!
This is a beautiful, well thought out project.
I was hoping someone would do the recessed mount, and you nailed it! It's so much better with the tv flush like yours.
Also love the motorized mount.
Thank you very much for sharing photos.

Was a good project that I built for my son's new home.
I found a few errors in the instructions such as:
A) 2 - 2x4 @ 30 1/2 should be 30 1/4
B) 8 - 2x6 @ 32 15/16 both ends at 30 degrees off square, parallel to each other) should be cut at 34 15/16 blank sizes then cut the angles to acheive the finish size of 32 15/16
C) 8 - 2x6 @ 36 3/4 (both ends at 90 degrees off square, parrallel to each other) should be (both ends at 22 1/2 degrees off square, NOT parrrallel to each other)
This is the daybed option. The plan and cut list worked great.
I made the sectional from pallet wood
Needed extra wood for legs to be stable. I made these under the house, and unfortunately had to take apart to get out! luckily i used screws.
I made to measure after getting the outdoor cushions first.
Taught me heaps
I built Ana's under $20 cedar planters for free. Or, almost free! I had to buy some more wood glue, but I had some of the wood on hand and took some from a friend's pile of old fence wood. It took me about five hours to build both planters from start to finish. See the blog link below for more info.

This is great. I just tore down my old fence and have tons of old cedar pickets. I want to make some planters for my new patio.
We needed a bench to fill the space in our front entry and provide some storage for seasonal gear. We couldn't find anything to buy that would work for us, so when my wife found these plans, I had to try it! Couldn't be happier with the results. We widened the bench by a foot to 84" to fill the space. Basically, it just made each drawer 4" wider. Everything else was built to plan. The most expensive thing was the soft-close 24" drawer slides (~$100). As soon as you go above that 24" depth, they get pricier! It was also tricky to get the drawers to catch properly on the soft-close mechanisms, but I made sure to take the time to get it right before closing it all in. Now I just open and close the drawers for the pure satisfaction of it! I used premium pine plywood for the top and I find it still doesn't give that smooth finish I like, even after sanding. I think I'll create a new top out of joined knotty pine planks later and just attach it to the top.
I built this bed for my parent's guest room at my sister's house. It is very similar to a bed mom had been wanting. They wanted a king size so I had to do some modifications to the original plan - primarily adding 16" to all width measurements. I also used 10 - 1x8s for the headboard panels. That made the panels slightly too wide, so I had to rip a little bit off the 2 end panels.
The hardest part of the project was getting it in her house! The legs made it about 1/4" too wide to fit it thru the door. We were about to remove the legs (which would have been a disaster since they were glued, screwed and painted on) when we finally figured out the right angle to squeeze it in. I had to touch up the paint in a few spots once we got it in position, but that was much better than having to remove legs and put them back on. We still need to get plywood for the mattress to sit on and I'm going to add a middle leg for extra support since it's a king. I will probably eventually build nightstands to go with it. Overall, I'm pretty happy with how it turned out since this is my largest and "fanciest" project so far.

I really love this bed, however, being military we move quite often. Is there a way that you would recommend I could alter it so that it can be broken down a little to make it easier for moving? Thank you much :D

For easy moving I can not recommend the highly enough. You attach them to the side rails and the head and foot of the bed and instead of screwing the whole bed together it just locks into place. They are THE BEST! http://www.rockler.com/m/product.cfm?page=11

Attach the sides to the headboard and footboard with bed rail brackets so you can knock the bed apart to move

There is even a bracket for the center rail of a king-sized bed.

I just posted a brag post with this bed in black. I will see if I can upload a photo of how I built this bed for very easy break down. I looked at all the brackets etc.. with this being built out of pine I was not 100% confident in the Rockler / Wood craft brackets. I used a forstner bit and a 4.5" bolt with some washers.
