Preparation

Shopping List
  • 1 - 1x10 @ 2 feet long
  • 1 - 1x4 @ 3 feet long
  • 2" self tapping wood screws (try spax or similar, look for the star bit ones, can use trim screws)
  • 3" self tapping wood screws for hanging the bike holder on the wall (you'll just need two)
  • Wood glue
  • Handle and hooks

1 - 1x10 @ 12" - back

1 - 1x10 @ 10-1/2" - bottom

2 - 1x4 @ 10" - sides

1 - 1x4 @ 12"  - front

Instructions

Step 1

Notch the sides out of the back with a jigsaw to match the ends of your 1x4 boards.

Step 2

Attach the two side 1x4s to the back, with two screws into the back.  If wood splits, take a second to predrill holes.  Use ample glue - this is a structural joint.

Step 3

Attach bottom to sides and back with glue and screws.  Predrill screw holes if necessary.

Step 4

Attach front to shelf.  The front is not structural - you can use 1-1/4" brad nails if you have them.  

Step 5

Use jigsaw or hole saw to notch out sides.  The notch does not have to be super deep - just enough to keep the bike from moving on the shelf.  

Hang the bike holder on the wall with 3" or longer screws into a stud in the wall with at least two screws.
