LaughHere's another creative way to decorate or spruce up new or old furniture.

I came across this while looking for table idea's, thought I would share.

They even have a step-by-step on how to do this towards the bottom of the page. Looks like fun!

Hi Loni! I actually made an outdoor console a while back using nothing but scraps I found around my house: landscape timbers, wood pallets, and leftover tiles from when I had my laundry room tiled - there was even grout left over!  I had never done tiling at all, so I just winged it.  I had my boys 'help' me break a few tiles up into pieces with the hammer, then I glued down the tiles - first with wood glue, and when I ran out of that I used epoxy, and when I ran out of that I used hot glue.  No joke.  I figured the grout would hold them in, which it did!  Mixed up the grout like cake batter and frosted that sucker just like a... ummm... cake! Mosaic tiling is soooo easy! You'll never throw away a broken dish again!

I haven't figured out how to post a picture yet... I guess I have to set up a photobucket account or something.  When I do, I'll link it here.

I would like to do some slate or marble tile in a small end table for practice and move on from there to some resurfaced furniture. My question is how to deal with the edges of the tile. Is there a tool to smooth out the edges of the grout at an angle so one can have a neat edge on it? I have read around the net and it was suggested to frame the area with molding before laying the tiling but I think it would look better to do this without framing as after a while all the furniture would start to look the same. Thanks, hope you are still around...looks like its been a year since a post was put up:)

I haven't tried this myself yet, however I imagine you wouldn't grout the outside edge, just use a sander or sand by hand to round or shape the outside edges of the tiles how you like. I bet you could also get that wire tape used in making stained glass to give it another cool effect.
