Bed Rail attachment options??

So I just built a queen bed (Farmhouse queen), and when it was all done, the frame had to actually "butt up to" the posts. So I made (4) pocket holes on the end of each of the 2x6 side rails and used 3" long screws to attach the frame to the headboard and footboard.

My concern is this: Is this going to be strong enough and last a long time?? OR would I be better to invest in some bed rail brackets??

Thoughts...anyone? I am supposed to be doing another queen bed for a friend of mine; and I just want to make sure that I don't build something that will fall apart. THANKS!

I think it will probably be fine. It might be a good idea to try yours out for a while before building your friend's bed. If after a month or two of good solid use, if it's holding up, it's probably fine. If it's not solid, try the brackets.

I agree with claydowling. The weight will be distributed across all areas of the bed and not necessarily at this joint. If you decide to use the brackets, I've used the keyhole brackets from Rockler with much success - easy to install and no mortising!
