Different Voltage Drill? Having Problems..

I'm building the basic "Simple Bed" found here on Ana White. I'm at the point where I've drilled 1/2 way through the 4x4 posts, but when I try to put the screws in, they aren't going all the way in. There is approximately 1" left on the screw.

I have a 18V Ryobi cordless drill. I've tried changing the torque setting too, with no luck. The battery appears to be fully charged. Any suggestions? Do I need a higher voltage drill? Any help is greatly appreciated!!

You may not have drilled the pilot deep enough. But if you have, the answer for more torque isn't a bigger drill. You'll have better luck with a hand brace like these: http://www.amazon.com/s?ie=UTF8&keywords=bit%20brace&rh=n%3A228013%2Ck%… You should stick to the two-jaw varieties.

You'll also need an adapter for hex screwdriver bits, like http://www.leevalley.com/US/wood/page.aspx?p=32300&cat=1,180,42337&ap=1

It's my go-to solution for driving screws, because of the high torque and resistance to stripping. I've never stripped a screw. If a screw has failed to go in, it's because the screw fails, not because of lack of torque.
