Refinishing a Dresser - BEGINNER!

Hello!

I am getting ready to start my first project and I am a little lost.

I am going to be refinishing an already painted dresser. I know the first step is to remove the old paint, but should I sand the paint off or use a paint stripper?

I am getting conflicting advice from the guys... :)

If you know of any helpful tutorials, please share them with me.

Thanks for your help!

You will need to strip the current finish and paint off the dresser. They make spray paint strippers that would probably be easy for you as a first-timer. Just make sure you wear gloves and be careful of overspray- it will burn a bit if you get it on your skin! Let it sit for 5-10 minutes, then scrape off with a putty knife or use some steel wool for any tight spaces or intricate places.

Once that is done, begin sanding! Start with a 120 grit and then go back over with a 220.
