Need help in building my table!

Hi, I have recently brought an extremely small house and am so thankful I have found this website! I'm looking to build a new dining table and while I have found a few plans that would work perfectly I am really struggling with what wood to use. I know there are specific forums regarding particular topics but I have a couple of questions regarding a few different things so I thought it would be best to post in here!

This is my dream table! I love the colour of the wood and the aged and weathered appearance of it. While I know it will be very hard to replicate it exactly I am hoping that I will be able to make something similar.

I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions as to what type of wood would be best to use and if anyone had any suggestions on finishes and just any general tips for when building the table.

Thanks in advance, I am very new to diy furniture building and any tips would be greatly appreciated!

The table in your picture looks like it's made from reclaimed pine (possibly chestnut) factory floorboards - my mum and dad have a very similar table that my granddad made.

I don't know where you live, but in the UK we have lots of architectural salvage yards that sell reclaimed wood. That's where I'd start to look for this type of timber.

You could finish it with a beeswax furniture polish, which will emphasize the grain pattern.

Good luck!
