Hemnes Linen Cabinet redux

Submitted by Dan K on Mon, 11/22/2010 - 19:06

OK now that I have used basic reading skills to find the correct forum …Embarassed

Onto the Hemnes Cabinet:

On this project page Ana posted this picture talking about its color/finish.

A lot of the commenters were interested in plans.  So I came up with this in Sketchup:

While probably not an exact duplicate, it comes fairly close.   The overall dimensions are the same as on the "swedish" page, but a few parts are modified to use standard sizes of lumber to simplify construction.  I would say that this project is advanced compared to many of the other plans on this site.  A Kreg Jig is required, as well as a circular saw with a fine (40 tooth) blade.

Tomorrow I will post the shopping list, the cutlist, and step by step assembly guide.

EDIT:

Second part of plans are up on Flickr!

Shopping List:
2x2 — 5 @ 8'
1x2 — 4 @ 8'
1x4 — 2 @ 8'
1x6 — 2 @ 8'
1x6 — 1 @ 4'
Half Sheet of ¾" BC grade or Sanded Ply
Full Sheet of ¼" Ply
2 sets of euro drawer glides 16" length
Knobs or handles for drawers and doors
4 hinges for doors
Wood glue
2" wood screws  (1 Lb.)
1 1/8" Finish nails  (small package)
1¼" Pocket hole screws  (100 count box)

There are a several design options that may affect this list;

The construction of the top (solid wood or ply)

The depth of the drawers (1x3 or true 3")

The type of material for back and drawer bottoms (plywood or paneling, beadboard, etc…)

As listed, the armoire has a solid wood top and 3" deep drawers.

For a plywood top purchase a whole sheet of ¾ plywood and delete the 1x6's except for the 4'.

For 1x3 drawers, delete the 1x4's and purchase 2 — 1x3 @ 8'  and 1 — 1x4 @ 4'  for the drawer fronts.  This will save you from having to rip down the drawer box material.

I've noticed a lot of people have looked at this and was curious if anyone had actually attempted to build it yet?

Dan,

This is on my to do list, once I find the time. I bet if you submitted it as a new plan on Ana's website, lots of people would build it right away. It's a great plan!

Thank you.  I would love to submit it but I would have to condense it down to 10 steps, and that would would mean a lot more work.  Writing the steps and taking all of the pictures take about 4 times as long as creating the sketchup itself.  Of course Ana could make an exception.. *wink wink.. nudge nudge

i would love this to be submitted, then i could put it on my to-do-list

Allright... I bit the bullet and started condensing the directions down into 10 steps.

I'm about 80% done, still have to do a bit more photo editing and reworking of the instructions.  There were a few glaring omissions that I will deal with in the finishing paragraph.

Barring any unforseen emergencies, it should be submitted by saturday.
