Shorter floating shelves

I have Ana's floating shelves plans from YHL for a 72" shelf.  I want to build one much shorter, like maybe 2'.  I noticed the frame front is 3 inches shorter than than the actual shelf.  Is there a specific algorithm if I were to build a shorter shelf, or is the 3" a constant number?  In other words, if I built one 24" long, would the frame then need to be 21"?  And would the strips on the frame remain 11" apart?

TIA.

I haven't built these, so not speaking from experience, but I don't think that the overall length matters to the other dimensions.

The 3" is about fitting the shelf over the support frame, so that should be constant no matter the length.

I would say that the frame can have as many strips as you want, it's all about strength.

Again, just my two cents, no actual experience with building these!

Yes, the 3" difference is "constant" - no algorithm necessary. I build a shorter set (59") and just reduced the measurements accordingly.

It's best to keep the strips 11" apart, but you don't need to be exact here (just eyeball it!), and more strips are better.
