I am very new to all this and I'm wanting to learn how to build a few simple things. How would you join the the pieces together without using Kreg Jig for pocket holes? For example , If I'm going to be joining the legs to a table, then how would I go about doing that if I dont have a Kreg Jig? How else could I do this in the meantime until I am able to get a Kreg Jig? Thanks in advance for any replies.

You could use a corner brace. I do this for my knock-down desks, which are quite sturdy.
For the ultimate in strength and stability, try a mortise and tenon joint. You'd need to pick up a mortise chisel (or if you're creative you can grind a screwdriver to the right shape), and an inexpensive back saw from the hardware store. Hand cutting mortises has gotten a lot of attention in the press in the last couple of months, so you can get some good video and articles.

Mortise and tenon joinery is the classic and still superior way to hitch table legs to table apron boards. Some of the online table leg merchants offer this service for small money. Matt Burak's tablelegs.com is a good one.
