Rustic X End Tables/Coffee Tables

What type of wood did you use for the Rustic X End Tables/Coffee Tables? Douglas Fir is about all I can find in my area and want to make sure this is a good choice, especially since I'm wanting to apply a stain. I've read that a gel stain is my best option. Just curious of the wood you used before I make my purchase. Thanks

Hi CKH,

Douglas Fir is a good choice for a rustic table. It is strong and will be less blotchy than ...say... Hemlock or pine. Fir is the type of wood used on ana's site.

If you are going to stain your table be sure to use a wood conditioner or sizing (a1:1 mixture of wood glue and water). That will help to have less blotching. Always do a sample test before applying a finish on your project.

Hillery's oxidized finsh is another type of "stain" that you can use that can tend to make your table have a older look...or less "new". Hillery has great instructions.
