Do your children love dress up?  Part of the fun is having storage just as beautiful as your dresses! 

Our DIY dress up rail is fit for a princess, but still a simple project made from stair spindles!

Preparation

2 - 41" stair spindles with block end at top and bottom

2 - curtain rod finials

1 - 1x6 @ 8 feet long 

1 - 1x2 or rod pole @ 3 feet long

1 - 2x4 @ 4 feet long

fastener between 2-1/2" and 2-3/4" long for step 1

2" self tapping screws (try Spax or similar) for attach bottom shelf boards in last step

2 - 2x4 @ 17" - long point to long point, both ends cut at 30 degrees, ends NOT parallel

4 - 2x4 @ 3-1/2" 

4 - 1x6 @ 5-1/2"

2 - 1x6 @ 36"

Instructions

Step 1

Attach 2x4 base pieces together.  Use a fastener between 2-1/2" and 2-3/4" long, if nailing make sure you also use glue.

Step 2

Drill 3/4" pocket hole screws to attach the stair spindle to the base, one on each side.  Attach with 1-1/4" pocket hole screws.

Step 3

Cut corbels from 1x6 pieces with jigsaw.  Attach with 3/4" pocket holes to the stair spindle and 2x4 base.

Drill out top for curtain rod finials and attach.

Step 4

Attach 1x6 shelf boards between corbels with screws to 2x4 base and corbels.

Measure distance between stair spindles at top and cut 1x2.  Attach with 3/4" pocket holes and 1-1/4" pocket hole screws and glue.
