Preparation

Shopping List
  • 3 - 2x2 @ 8 feet long
  • 1 - 1x12 @ 4 feet long
  • 2-1/2" self tapping trim screws
  • 1-5/8" self tapping trim screws or 1-1/4" brad nails
  • wood glue
  • 120 grit sanding block
  • paint or stain
Cut List
  • 2 - 1x12 @ 22-1/2"
  • 4 - 2x2 @ 21-1/4" - legs
  • 4 - 2x2 @ 19-1/2" - frame
  • 5 - 2x2 @ ABOUT 19-1/2" - adjust to 3" less than the width of the tabletop boards

General Instructions

Sand all cut boards with 120 grit sandpaper.

Instructions

Step 1

Cut the 1x12 tabletop boards.

Lay flat and measure the width.  Note this width - if it does not match the diagram, you will need to make cut adjustments as noted in the cut list.

If you have a pocket hole jig, join the tabletop boards with 3/4" pocket holes and 1-1/4" pocket hole screws.

 

Step 2

Build two frames as shown using the longer screws and wood glue.

Step 3

Adjust cuts if necessary for the remaining frame pieces.  Assemble the frame.

Let dry on a level surface.

Fill hole with wood filler and let dry.

Sand off sanding residue.

TIP: For a two tone finish, paint or stain the frame now, but keep top raw for gluing to the tabletop in later steps.

Step 4

Attach tabletop to the base.
