How would you hang an unfinished shelf?

Hi,

I bought an unfinished shelf from joanne fabrics. I painted it, but now I'm a little stuck on the best way to hang it. It came with no pre-drilled hole or mounting hardware. It resembles this shelf from land of nod: http://www.landofnod.com/product.aspx?sku=375856&mr:referralID=c25c6711…

So, I thought that I would drill a hole, through the front and use anchors, blah, blah. But then it occurred to me that the screws would show. I guess I could use a dowl to cover, but it still doesn't seem ideal.

I looked around and it looks like I could use a keyhole plate but it seems like I will need a router/fostner bits, etc. Has anyone tried this before on an unfinished wood piece?

Anyways, would just love to hear some thoughts before I begin. Thanks

thanks for the suggestion.

I just did it the old fashioned way and drilled holes and used screws. I was trying to get that no screw look, but it just didn't seem worth it (buying a router, etc). Now I know that if the next time I buy unfinished pieces, I'll only buy ones with keyhole mounting! :)

I do think that some of the project instructions on this site could includes a best hanging practices guide or tip.
