Small Hutch for the Storage Bed Headboard

| Print this plan

About Project

A small hutch to add storage just above the headboard. Perfect for favorite books and even alarm clocks. Works with the rest of our storage bed system. Special thanks to our readers for sharing their photos.

I'm scared to mention to my husband that I'm thinking about redoing Grace's room again.

Because this bed system will fit anything and everything Grandma could possibly buy Grace, and is super easy and modular to build.  And it looks amazing too!  How about it, filled with cute storage containers like Pottery Barn Teen does here.

We've already got quite a few pieces (everything BUT the top hutch and side towers) in our Storage Bed Collection of plans, and I can't wait to add the rest.  Today's plan is for the small, middle hutch with doors.  It's super easy to build.  And because we are attaching both a back and a face frame, glue and your nailer will work fine for the construction.  But the strongest joint will be pocket hole screws, or countersunk wood screws.  I'll leave that up to you and you can ask yourself questions like "will this be climbed on?" and "is this going to college with my kids?"

Thank you all for commenting yesterday on the PDF.  I love you for supporting me, even if I do have some odd aspirations to live off the grid.  :)  I think I will try to do a few diagrams in the blog post so you can get the dimensions and a rendering, but will leave the actually plan to the PDF.  Also ended up following the advice of one of our readers and adding page numbers and plan titles to the header/footers.  Keep the advice coming, I do read your comments and it does impact my decisions.

And here is the plan!
