Best Woodworking book to get you started

I went to the public library to find books on woodworking and came across one that "hits the nail on the head!" It's called You can do it! I don't remember who all the authors are but if you type it in on Amazon you should be able to find it no problem. It tell you everything you need to know about what tools you can get away with in the beginning, what they do, how to use them and it shows you building plans that are actually pretty nice for beginners (and not to mention doable.) I totally recommend this book. Even if you have already dove into carpentry, this will teach you things you thought you already knew!

Hand Tool Techniques, from the same publishers, is pretty good. It has a lot of good articles about using hand tools, which is my preferred working method.

Tage Frid Teaches Woodworking is also great. It is slightly more advanced, but it's full of good information. The third book in the series, in particular, is about furniture design. If gives you the information you need to design your own furniture.
