Reclaimed wood/Mason headboard

So, I have a question about the cuts for this one.  All the plans I've seen say to have Blue or Orange make cuts for you if you can/like, but then this plan says not to cut until you're building it so you can make sure to have all your measurements perfect as you go.

What did you do?  Should I have them cut it?  Cut everything but the trim pieces?  Part of me thinks to have them cut it, because really if you ask for a certain measurement aren't they going to do that?  But then the other (probably realistic) side of me thinks that I shouldn't because no project really works out *perfectly, you know?

Thanks!

I made this headboard and I did all the cuts myself.  I get Orange to cut things for me when I'm using plywood or mdf because we don't have a table saw and trying to rip down big sheets of stuff is tricky with just a circular saw (plus fitting them in the minivan is tricky), but with just boards it's easy to make the cuts yourself and with the trim pieces you want to be able to make those cuts yourself so they fit in there right.

Excellent!  Thanks for the BTDT, it helps a lot!

Kaely, this really depends on just how picky you are about your joints being perfect.  If you have the ability to make good straight cuts, make your own cuts.  But if you don't have the ability and are saving for a good saw, take advantage of the services available at hardware stores.  Can't wait to see your headboard!

OK, so today I bought my lumber.  I decided to do the cuts myself ;)  Anyhow, I've made the legs, and am halfway through putting all the boards on the legs.  I'm having some gaps in between the boards!  is this normal?  The sides where they're nailed to the legs are fine, but in the middle they're not looking so good.  Will this be corrected when it's upright and has the middle support suggested for the king size or am I doing something horribly wrong?

Thanks!
