Home Depot does not do cabinet-quality cuts unless you get lucky.

Check the local YMCA, maybe a community college and other places. If they give woodworking classes, they have a workshop.

Ask a friend for garage space.

It's tough getting started and being in an apartment. If it helps, I started by renting a garage from the apartment complex (no heat, no electric) and buying a cheap Black and Decker set of cordless tools. the garage provided storage and somewhere dry - tho the lighting could've been better, but with a trisquare and a circular saw you can get pretty close to perfect :) Hope this helps!

requires a lot of ingenuity. It also makes you a good candidate for being primarily a hand-tool woodworker. A very good hand-tool workshop can be fit into a longer toolbox. In fact, save for a pair of 26" hand saws, this is the entire toolkit that a professional cabinet maker needs:

The toolbox is a work of art in its practicality. The top doubles as a small bench for certain tasks when he's installing something in a customer's home. The book this plan appears in is fascinating reading, but it's as much aspirational as inspirational for me.

In an unheated, unpowered shed with that tool kit he's made pieces that sell for thousands of dollars in Toronto art galleries.
