Securing trim on Hailey Platform Bed

Submitted by iraethan on Wed, 11/06/2013 - 16:19

Quick question. I'm in the process of building the Hailey Platform Bed.

The plans call for finishing nails or screws to be used on the trim and covered with putty. But it looks like if I build the frame and skip the cleats I could use pocket screws and glue to connect the 2x6 frame to the trim. That way there would be no screw holes showing.

After the trim is in place I could easily screw the cleats in place.

Am I missing something or does this make sense?

I went ahead and used pocket hole screws and it worked perfectly. I completed the bed with zero holes to putty!

I also used 4x4s rather than 2x4s for the legs and drilled 1/2 pilot holes and secured them with 4" screws.

Pictures to come soon!
