Great job! I was thinking about going to Lowes just today to get stuff to make this . . . I have a million projects on my to-do list, but I just can't get this one out of my head. Any suggestions or was it smooth sailing?
Thank you!! I am so proud of myself! Ana you are awesome and I totally felt like I got a celebrity's autograph when I saw that you commented on my post!
My alteration was to buy a 1x12x12, instead of 1x12x10. I had them cut an extra 34.5" for the shelf and then cut the remainder in half, so it is about 1.5" taller than the original plan. (so I got 34.5, 34.5, 37.5 & 37.5) However- I wish it were about 6-8" taller. I think dresses would hang better that way. If I were to ever build another one, I would probably make the sides 42 or 44" and maybe even have 2 shelves at the top. It would cost more as I would have to buy an extra 1x12, but I think it would be worth it. I am actually giving this as a gift to 2 sweet girls that I babysit and their mom is really excited about it! I have boys and they are not into dress up at all!
The only thing I've built before is the $10 ledges- I made 2 four foot ledges for my DS's room. I've never used a jigsaw before, and actually ripped a hole in my shirt with it!! (It got sucked into the little vent in the back) I've used the drill plenty of times, but I think I broke 4 bits on this. I have one spot where the long sides were not exactly the same length and I kind of shimmed it up to match, and will have to try to hide it with wood filler.
But other than those little first-timer hiccups, this was so easy! I started with a pile of wood at 9 am had it done by 1:30! (with no kids around to "help!" LOL)
Looks fantastic! Nice work! Love the details. So far I have only helped with the finishing, I need to take the tools into my own hands and stop bugging hubby to do everything for me :)
